OUR COMMUNITY LETTERS OF SUPPORT

December 15, 2000
As someone who has had to rely on public transit in the past, I find it unusual that Caledon, an ever-growing community, does not have a public transit system.
Not everyone has the use of an automobile to travel to various locations, both in the Caledon area and to our neighbouring communities of Brampton, Toronto, and so on. This lack of transportation restricts our residents in many ways. Working and commuting throughout our area is either non-existent for these people or can get quite costly if they need to use the services of a taxi company every time they need to go somewhere.
When I was younger, I relied completely on the transit system in Brampton to get me everywhere; to work, to college, the shopping centre, the doctor, everywhere.
As an employer in the Caledon area, it is unfortunate that I can not offer opportunities to those that do not have a means of transportation. My business is in a rural area, not in the main 'hub' of the community, and therefore if anyone is in need of coming to my place of business, they have to have transportation.
I can relate to everyone who feels restricted and isolated by not having a means of transportation and completely support establishing a transit system in the Caledon area. Not only would it help our residents to expand their travelling 'circles', it would also help to bring our community closer together by enabling everyone to enjoy all that Caledon has to offer.
Sincerely,
