Dial-a-Ride

Whitby Transit Dial-a-RIDE ridership is on the increase. Since the start of operation in December, 1995 until March 31, 1996 Dial-a-RIDE service has carried 3,216 passengers to and from the two transit transfer points (Go Station and Thickson/Consumers Drive).

What is Dial-a-Ride?

As described in the Winter 1995 edition of the "Whitby Report", Dial-a-RIDE is a demand responsive service which covers the industrial area bordered by Brock Street, Highway #401, Oshawa/Whitby border and Lake Ontario. The service is provided all day Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The taxi service takes passengers directly to where they want to go and only operates when they require the service. The Town of Whitby saves approximately half the cost of a fully implemented bus transit route and during these economic times this type of service is both customer responsive and economical.
