Overview

Handi Transit Incorporated, a non-profit organization, was established in 1974 to provide transportation services to physically challenged residents of Oshawa. The service operates seven "specialized" vans, each equipped with a wheelchair lift and capable of transporting of up to seven wheelchair-bound passengers and four seated passengers (for ambulatory passengers and/or attendants).

Eligibility


Handi Transit provides service to permanently or temporarily disabled individuals whose mobility problems prevent access to conventional public transit. Attendants or escorts may ride with an eligible passenger and will be charged a regular fare.

Telephone (905-571-1222) or visit the office any weekday during our regular office hours (8:00am to 5:00pm). You will be asked to provide particulars to help us confirm your eligibility. This information will also be used to advise our drivers of any special assistance you may require.

Fares


Fares for trips to neighbouring municipalities will vary depending on distance. Please contact the office for more information.

To Arrange For Service


ESSENTIAL appointment bookings (medical, work, school) will be accepted up to seven days in advance by calling the dispatcher (905-725-4000) during regular office hours (8:00am to 5:00pm).

Other appointment bookings (social, shopping, etc.) will be accepted from 3:00pm on the day before the appointment date.
