MISSISSAUGA![]() Mississauga Transit City Centre Transit TerminalThe City of Mississauga's $6.5 million City Centre Terminal opened an era of comfortable and efficient service for the City's transit users. The two-acre terminal complex is located on the northwest corner of the Square One Shopping Centre between Rathburn Road West and Square One Drive. Seventy five percent of the cost of the $6.5 million project was covered by subsidies from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) with the balance of funds coming from the City's 1992 Capital Budget. The terminal handles 100 buses per hour during peak periods and services 25 of Mississauga Transit's 58 routes. This key transfer point services over 30,000 riders daily, 60 percent of whom will transfer to other routes. The terminal building is open seven days a week, including holidays. Two major benefits riders will realize immediately are the climate controlled enclosed terminal building with various amenities on the platform level, and a much safer pedestrian traffic flow within the terminal. The fully accessible terminal building includes a coffee stop, customer information centre, ticket and transit pass sales, seniors' photo identification service, lost and found, escalator, elevator for physically disabled patrons and washroom facilities. Security is provided around the clock through closed circuit television cameras and two-way communication emergency stations located inside the building. An automatic access control system opens and closes the building. Other amenities include pay telephones, vending machines, and bicycle racks. A Kiss and Ride and taxi stand is located adjacent to the main entrance on Square One Drive. The terminal is conveniently located in close proximity to the Mississauga Civic Centre, the Living Arts Centre, Eaton's Square One, Chapters, Playdium, Famous Players Coliseum, Sport Chek, Jack Astor's and Alice Fazooli's. |
